My name is Keith Moore and I have owned and operated the Karate school in LaFayette, New York since I989. The name of the school is Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Genbu-Kai, and the style is Shito-Ryu. And now, since September 2001, we also have another branch in Fayetteville, expanding even more, the teaching of this fascinating Martial Arts technique.
I began my training in the Fall of 1980 at the Cortland YMCA in Koei-Kan Karate-Do, and recieved my Sho-Dan December 6, 1987 with them. After I opened my LaFayette Dojo, in April 1992, I left Koei-Kan, and in February of 1993, after much intense searching, I joined the Genbu-Kai Shito-Ryu group headed in New York by Charles Hobbib Sensei. Nationally, the Genbu-Kai Shito-Ryu group is directed and supervised by The Grand master Shihan Demura, who has an intensive background in this (and many others) Martial Arts. Hobbib Sensei is the New York Chief Instructor for Genbu-Kai. My martial arts training include: Karate, Aikido, Judo, Jujitsu, Kobudo (weapons), Iai-Do (kneeling sword art), and Batto-Do (standing sword art).
I teach karate as close to the way the masters originated and intended it to be. In society today both domestic and social discipline are both lacking and very closely watched. However, martial art training is hard, everyone sweats, starts at the bottom, and students earn everything - I give nothing free. When we spar or do self defense moves, the students will first learn them slowly, and do them gently. However, when a student has learned either well, we take the intensity to a level that would be equal to a real street encounter. This will show a student how prepared they may or may not be for a real self defense situation. Above all of this, I teach that having a positive attitude, and good manners, is as important as learning how to kick and punch - if not more important.
In addition of providing a variety of regular classes in both our facilities, and also developing customized instructions to individuals and groups, I also provide other related services, including after-school programs, community services, and self-defense training. I have also contributed recently with local demonstrations in charitable events and some fund raisers, to help and assists the Firemen and Policemen families that were affected in the tragic events of September 11th. Names of local schools where I provide After school martial art programs are:
Traditional martial arts can be very beneficial to anyone interested in learning them. They teach discipline, perseverance, patience, and most of all a sense of well being. Also, it can be a great way to either get in, or stay in shape. To some people, martial arts can be very overwhelming, while others seem to learn and excel faster. This is only human nature. Everyone who learns martial arts will benefit somehow, and eventhough esults will vary depending on the person, the overall experience is always a possitive one.
