OUR LAFAYETTE FACILITY IS CLOSED... after careful and painful consideration, I have been sadly forced to closed the studio where all began for my Karate school. For over 10 years, this studio has hold daily classes, exiting tournaments, in depth seminars, and even traditional celebrations. I left the information about the Lafayette dojo in the website, to keep showing for a short period of time, the amenities and different memories this facility has brought to me and to the many students that were training here. Now, we are building the same tradition and (hopefully) more enjoyable memories, in our Fayetteville facility, where with more room and plenty space, our school continue teaching Karate to the Central New York community. Hi..! I am Keith Moore, Owner and Manager of the Central New York Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Genbu-Kai. I will try in this page to give you a synopsis of our first Karate facility, not only to describe where everything started, but also to provide general information to our cyberspace audience of this website. To learn also about our other facility, please click here to go to the web-page for our recently acquired dojo in Fayetteville. In October 1988, I met my parents for lunch in a Syracuse restaurant. They suggested that I go look at a building in a small town ten minutes south of Syracuse. The town was LaFayette. I went and looked at this old, dirty and run down building, which used to be a John Deere Dealership, and thought my parents were crazy! Nevertheless, in December of 1988, my parents bought the building. For the next ten months, my father, mother and I worked almost every day to open what is now a Tanning Salon, and Karate Dojo. The idea of buying a building, in the Syracuse area, was to leave the dying Cortland economy, and open a family business. The tanning salon is in the front of the building, and the Dojo is in the rear of the building. During this time, my family lived in Cortland, NY and my father and I both worked in Syracuse. My mother was working for Smith Corona in Cortland, and we wanted to get her out of the "factory scene" and into something of her own. Today, our building not only offers an attractive landscape scenery to the LaFayette Business district, but also the most appropriate and equipped building in the area for Tanning, and Karate Training. With over 3,000 square feet of work-out area, and available lockers and changing rooms, our Dojo not only offers an excellent place to learn and develop our Self-defense instruction, but also to house a large capacity of students that come to our center every day to learn and develop this popular martial art. We are in the process of putting together more pertinent information about our recently acquired facility in Fayetteville. Please, check back again to this website, or simply contact us to obtain information about this Dojo. |
